FAQ: Becoming An Official
How do I become a hockey official?
In order to official hockey with the Milton Referee's Association or any minor hockey organization in Canada, a new official must attend a Hockey Canada Officiating Program. These programs are offered at the beginning of each hockey season.

Which HCOP program should I attend?
The Milton Referees' Association is governed by the OMHA. We recommend our officials attend an OMHA HCOP clinic. See www.omha.net for more details.

I attended a HCOP program outside the OMHA but want to referee with the MRA. What do I do?
You must complete and sign a crossover form and pay the necessary fees. The crossover form is available at the clinic you attended.

I referee men's hockey. Can I referee with the MRA?
All of our officials must attended a Hockey Canada registered clinic and be registered as an official with the OMHA. All of our hockey is governed by the OMHA and we must adhere to their policies. We do not discriminate against refereeing men's hockey, as many of our members do, but in order to referee hockey with the MRA, our officials must be HCOP registered.
