Hockey Canada - New Head Contact Rule
Hockey Canada - New Head Contact Rule
The 2011 Hockey Canada AGM has addressed the issue of Head Contact and continued commitment to zero tolerance measures in this area, and has implemented Rule Changes which will come into effect immediately for the 2011-2012 season.
The OHF Minor Council has also endorsed enhancements to the minimum suspensions for head contact penalties assessed in the newly approved Head Contact rule.
Similarly, the OMHA Development Committee and Board have also reviewed the issue - please see below for complete details

b) In Minor and Female, a Double Minor Penalty or a Major and a Game Misconduct Penalty, at the discretion of the Referee and based on the degree of violence of impact, shall be assessed to any player who intentionally contacts an opponent in the head, face, or neck with her stick or any part of the player's body or equipment.
c) DOES NOT APPLY TO MINOR HOCKEY AND AS SUCH HAS BEEN DELETED TO PREVENT CONFUSION
d) A Major and a Game Misconduct penalty, or a Match penalty shall be assessed any player who injures an opponent under this Rule.
e) A Match penalty shall be assessed any player who deliberately attempts to injure or deliberately injures an opponent under this Rule.
Note: All contact above the shoulders (neck, face, head) is to be called Head Contact under one of the above (in minor and female).
THIS RULE CHANGE WILL COME INTO EFFECT IMMEDIATELY

If you are unsure, contact anyone from our executive.

Don't pack those dreams of higher hockey away with your stick and gloves – there is another world of hockey out there!
I am very fortunate to have had to the opportunity to pursue hockey at an elite level. The perks are endless: skating with some of the most talented players on the planet, the extensive travel and sightseeing, and being booed by over ten thousand people. Not many people can say they've done any of that, and for that I consider myself lucky.
There is no reason why a young official can't aspire to do the same thing! Most young officials don't try to pursue officiating at a higher level of hockey. This could be because they don't care or that they don't know what's possible. I'll be brutally honest: choosing to officiate hockey, and to work hard at it, is the best decision I ever made.
Getting to the junior and pro level takes a lot of hard work and dedication, both off and on the ice. For ex-players, working hard shouldn't be new to you: you love to compete. Officiating offers high intensity situations, competition and unsurpassed camaraderie – plus the free travel perks! Who wouldn't want a free trip to Europe to referee some games, or a free trip to Ottawa? The great friendships I've made and the experiences I've had more than make up for the sweat and blood I'm now missing.
So, if you're packing away your stick for good, or have decided that your playing career is done, don't let that competitive fire burn out! Bring it to the ice as an official and you'll be surprised at what's out there!

Please be advised that if you have not already contacted us about joining our association we regret that we have no room left on our staff to allow more members to join this year.
Please contact us again in the spring (April - May, 2012) to put your name on the list for next season.
It is necessary for us to limit the nunber of officials we take on each year as we only have a certain amount of games that we can schedule new officials for.
We thank you for your interest, and welcome your application for next season.
As discussed in last week's meeting, all officials are required to wear a CSA approved helmet and visor. Please see the following report from the Ontario Hockey Federation.
are we going to give the correct answer; I remember when this rule was instituted and reason for it. Curious to see if the rule actually accomplishes ths.......
